- Carding, Spinning and Weaving
- by Giovanni Boccaccio
- from De claris mulieribus

-
- Two women are combing and carding
wool on spikes, inpreparation for spinning. A third is spinning,
using a spindle, with a distaff under her arm. The fourth is
weaving, on a large but simple loom. Spinning was traditionally
a female occupation, but weaving was shared. Broadcloth was generally
woven by men, who had a longer reach.
